What we take on
- Lost or loose stones. The most common repair there is, and the one people put off longest. A loose stone is a stone that falls out.
- Worn claws and prongs. Claws wear down before anything else on a ring. Retipping them costs far less than replacing the stone they were holding.
- Stone setting and replacement — including old cuts that need a properly cut setting rather than a modern one.
- Cracked or thin bands, split shanks and rings worn through at the back from years of wear.
- Chains and clasps — broken links, stretched chains, clasps that will not hold.
- Cleaning and polishing. White gold dulls as its plating wears and can be redone; a proper polish brings back a ring that has gone grey.
- Rhodium plating on white gold that has yellowed.
The one thing worth saying out loud
Check your claws once a year. It takes a minute to look, and it is the difference between a free tighten and a new stone. Most of the serious repairs we see were a small job that waited.
If a stone is already out, keep the setting and bring it in anyway — a replacement cut to fit an existing mount is much cheaper than a new setting.
Old pieces and inherited jewellery
Rings from a grandmother, brooches, a watch that stopped in 1974 — older pieces are the work most shops decline because they are fiddly and the metals behave differently. They are also usually the pieces that actually matter to someone. Bring it in and we will tell you what is possible, including when the honest answer is leave it alone.

Questions people actually ask
How much does it cost to replace a lost diamond?
It depends on the size and whether you keep the original setting — a replacement cut to fit an existing mount is much cheaper than building a new one. Show us the ring and we will give you a number before we start.
Do you do same-day repairs?
Small jobs like a tighten or a clean often can be done while you wait or within a day. Anything involving the setting or the band itself needs longer, and we will tell you which when we see it.
My ring is from another store. Will you work on it?
Yes. Where it came from makes no difference to us.
Can you fix jewellery that is not a ring?
Chains, clasps, pendants, bracelets and brooches, yes. Ask about watches specifically and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
Is it worth repairing an inexpensive ring?
Sometimes no, and we will say so. If the repair costs more than the piece is worth to you, redesigning the stone into something you will wear is often the better spent money.
