Most couples getting engaged in Southern Utah this year are buying a lab-grown stone. It is the same crystal as a mined diamond, it is certified the same way, it costs a fraction as much, and nobody died or dug up a mountain for it. Here is what it actually costs with us, and what happens if you ask.
What a lab-grown ring costs here
Not a range. The real numbers, so you can decide whether this is worth a conversation before you talk to anyone:
- Silver, 1 carat — about $480. A real ring, not a placeholder.
- 10K gold, 1 carat — about $1,130.
- 14K gold, 1 carat — about $1,380. This is what most people choose, and it is the number the builder on this site will show you.
- 18K gold, 1 carat — about $1,620.
- Bigger stone or a heavier band — about $2,250 for 2 carats on an extra-thick band.
Why it is this much cheaper than a mined diamond
A mined diamond of the same size, clarity and colour runs roughly $7,600 on average. The lab-grown version averages about $4,600 nationally — and we are well under that because we do not pay for a showroom, a display case full of stock nobody buys, or a national advertising budget.
So the two halves of our price are the workshop that makes the ring and the fact that there is no middleman between it and you. We think you should know both, which is more than you will get from most of the shops in town.
Why couples your age are choosing lab-grown
61% of engagement ring purchases now have a lab-grown centre stone, and among buyers under 30 it is closer to two thirds. This is not a compromise option any more. It is the default, and the people still describing it as fake are the people with mined diamonds to sell.
If you want the technical version: a lab-grown diamond is chemically, optically and structurally identical to a mined one. It has the same hardness, the same brilliance, and it is graded on the same scale by the same laboratories. A jeweller's loupe cannot tell them apart, and neither can she.

Questions people actually ask
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. They are the same material — carbon crystallised in a diamond lattice — with the same hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond, and graded by the same labs on the same scale. The only difference is where they formed: in a machine over a few weeks instead of underground over a billion years.
Can you tell a lab-grown diamond from a mined one?
Not with a jeweller's loupe, no. It takes a laboratory instrument, which is why the stone comes with its own certificate rather than a verbal assurance.
Which is better for a ring I want to keep for forty years?
There is no durability difference. A lab-grown diamond will not discolour, cloud or wear differently from a mined one, because it is the same crystal. From a value point of view they do hold value differently, and it is worth knowing that before you buy either one — ask us and we will tell you straight.
Is it cheaper because the quality is lower?
No. It is cheaper because growing a diamond costs less than mining one, and because we do not run a showroom. You can order a higher grade rather than a bigger stone if that is what matters to you, at the same budget.
How long does it take?
You get a drawing and an exact price in 48 hours. Once you approve it, the ring takes about 12 days to make, and then it comes to St. George to be set and finished by hand before it comes to you.
